Monday 10 MAY 2010

General events: Today I signed up to participate in a clinical trial of everolimus to treat advanced gastric cancer, to be conducted at The Canbera Hospital under the supervision of Dr Desmond Yip. Have set this blog up to keep a record of what is happening on a daily basis. No doubt it will be refined as I go along, but this is about my fifth blog so should be getting the hang of it.
Weight: 65kg [on bathroom scales in the morning].
Medication: Pariet 20mg; Dexmethsone 3mg [part of reducing dose over a four week cycle]; multivitamin tablet [Cenovis]
Food/water intake:
  • Coffee & 2 biscuits.
  • Shredded wheat plus banana & milk; 1/2 avocado.
  • Magnum ice cream [1400kJ];
  • Chicken meat & prawn meat;
  • Instant noodles plus chicken broth; Cappuccino dessert [1000kJ]; 20g chocolate [360kJ]; coffee.
  • Water 1 litre
  • Cheese & apple
Nausea/vomiting: Bloating, nausea & vomiting last night. Very unpleasant with reflux. Induced vomiting twice, but unable to get full relief. Vomiting begins with a bloated feeling in the stomach which can build up over several hours; once this phase has been reached there is no relief except by vomiting. This is accompanied by acrid burning reflux taste in the mouth. Several attacks of cramp in the legs, poor sleep.
Bowel movements: Yes, good motion, well formed, soft. Best for weeks. Clear evidence that food is getting through the stent.
Energy level/exercise: Good/one hour walk before breakfast. Outside garden work during the day.
Pain: 2/10 in stomach on waking. Took Panadeine x 2 to good effect.
